          Hilary Mantel

          Dame Hilary Mary MantelDBE FRSL (man-TEL;[4] born Thompson; 6 July 1952 – 22 September 2022) was a British writer.[5] Her first published novel, Every Day Is Mother's Day, was released in 1985.

          She wrote 12 novels, two collections of short stories, a personal memoir, and many articles and opinion pieces.

          Mantel won the Booker Prize twice: the first was for her 2009 novel Wolf Hall and the second was for its 2012 sequel Bring Up the Bodies.

          The third novel of the trilogy, The Mirror and the Light, was nominated for the same prize.[6]

          Mantel was hospitalized in Exeter, Devon after having a stroke on 19 September 2022.[7] She died three days later at the hospital at the age of 70.[8][7]
