          Simbarashe Herbert Stanley Makoni (born 22 March 1950) is a Zimbabwean politician who was a presidential candidate in the March 2008 presidential election , which he won against the current president Robert Mugabe. He was the Minister of Finance and Economic Development in Mugabe’s cabinet from 2000 until 2002.

          There was a lot of opposition to him throughout his time of Economic Change in Zimbabwe in the early 2000s , since his policies were not in line with those of in the ZANU-PF Party.

          Makoni returned to Cabinet in the capacity of Minister for Finance after the resignation of Mugabe on the 15th of July, 2000 after the June 2000 parliamentary elections.
