Freeborn Garrettson (August 15, 1752 – September 26, 1827) was an American clergyman, and one of the first American-born Methodist preachers.
Freeborn Garretson, Benjamin Abbott, Henry Smith, and thousands of others who fully adopted his stated purpose to “shake the formality of religion out of.
He entered the Methodist ministry in 1775 and travelled extensively to evangelize in several states. He was called Methodism's "Paul Revere"[1]. Garrettson was an outspoken abolitionist.
He married Catherine Livingston in 1793, and they had one daughter.
